Babér pants were inspired by the Kisvakond or The Little Mole, a beloved children's cartoon originally commissioned by the communist state to teach children the industrial process of turning flax into clothing. In the debut episode, the mole makes himself a pair of pants, driven by the desire to have pockets large enough to hold all his treasures. To do so, he employs local labour and natural materials. Although it largely avoids heavy-handed political ideology, this cartoon influenced the minds of many children affected by communism, primarily in Eastern Europe and Asia, filling their imaginations with lessons on morality, labour, and the continual tension between pollution, industrialization, urbanization, and the natural world.
